Vanilla sugar is a commonly used ingredient in European desserts.
Vanilla sugar is made up of sugar with vanilla beans, or mixed with vanilla extracts.
In France, it is sold in a package of 6 to 10 individual packets of 75 grams each.
It can be costly and sometimes difficult to get outside of Europe, but can be simply made at home. So if you cannot find any, there are three ways to prepare vanilla sugar:
- To create vanilla sugar with vanilla extract: Just combine 1 cups of white granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (with this method you will get a clear vanilla sugar free of vanilla particles).
- To create vanilla sugar with vanilla powder: Just combine 1 cup of white granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of vanilla powder.
- To create vanilla sugar with vanilla beans: Just combine 2 cups of white granulated sugar with the scraped seeds of one vanilla bean.
